This was a really interesting conversation with Dan Harris and Sam Harris. Sam was talking about how boredom is really just an inability to focus on something. Focused attention is never boring. They related it to meditation – when you mediate, even something as simple as your breath becomes interesting. That’s so true. And Dan Harris talks about the problem of us being constantly hyper stimulated.
I don’t consider myself addicted to my phone, but must admit I do find it more mesmerising than I’d like. I’m paraphrasing, but Sam says, you can become interested in the idea of boredom and then it bites itself in the tail. Well, I know what to do the next time I’m bored and standing in a queue at the grocery store.. and I better up my meditation time! For more listen to Joe Rogan podcast number 940.
