I haven’t used store bought toothpaste for about five years now. I stopped using it when I started to get worried about ingesting too much toxic fluoride. I did some research and experimented with a bunch of different recipes and created my own tooth powder which I’ve used ever since. I love it! My friend Monica asked me for the recipe the other day so I thought I’d share it here. I have never shared it before so you will have to let me know if you try it. A few of my friends have tested it when staying at my place. Most have looked at me like I’m crazy when they see it at first, but everyone has said it tastes really good and leaves their teeth feeling smooth after they try it. Warning! It tastes nothing like regular toothpaste, so don’t expect it to. There are recipes for tooth powder out there that taste more like regular mint style toothpaste, but I don’t particularly like them. I’m so used to my tooth powder now that regular store bought toothpaste tastes awful to me now. I’ve used it for 5 years now and I still have no cavities so fingers crossed it is working! So here it is… Feel free to experiment and amend as you like.
RECIPE: 4 tsp Bentonite Clay, 1 tsp Baking soda, 1/4 tsp cinnamon, 1 tsp xylitol, a few cracks of Celtic Sea salt. That’s it! It’s super simple. You can multiply out the recipe if you want to make a bigger batch, but I like to make small amounts because it can get clumpy depending on your bentonite clay I find. Here are the BENEFITS! The idea is that Bentonite clay is good for detoxifying. Baking soda discourages plaque and helps to whiten; the cinnamon is a useful for controlling bad bacteria and inflammation; xylitol is really good for your enamel, for your mouth pH and prevents bacteria from sticking to your teeth; and the celtic sea salt alkalises and makes it harder abrasive bacteria to live. There you go! Fluoride-free, superlicious, great-tasting, won’t kill you tooth powder. Any other recipes let me know. Enjoy! Oh almost forgot; here is where I get my bentonite from Amazon. You can get your xylitol there too or from the health food store or even Sainsbury’s if you are in the UK.
