I’ve thought about doing a silent retreat before but I always seem to have something else that takes priority. It’s one of those things where I think, “oh I’ll get to that when I have time”. So I liked it when I heard Jack Kornfield say on the Tim Ferriss show that it’s not always the right time to go away to a retreat. He explains when he talks about parents who’s kids need them – at certain points in your life maybe you can’t get away, but you can consider that experience to be your meditation practice. If you want to face yourself and your limitations, live with a bigger spirit no problem! You can get that all at home. How about a collicy baby or a terrible teen – there’s a full time zen trainer for you. The only place you find freedom is in your own heart he explains. That sounds tougher than the silent retreat!
